Environmental Sustainability Policy
ADORABLE MEDIA: Environmental Sustainability Policy
1. Context
Adorable Media Ltd. is a London-based independent television production company. We develop and produce content using a small core team, working with freelance crews and external suppliers across our productions.
Sustainability is an important part of how we operate. All of our productions complete BAFTA albert carbon footprints and Carbon Action Plans, and this policy provides a framework to ensure a consistent, company-wide approach.
Our policy covers office operations, production activities, travel, and our relationships with staff, freelancers, and suppliers. We aim to support the wider UK screen industry’s ambition to reduce emissions in line with global targets to limit climate change to 1.5°C and move towards net zero.
2. Responsibility
Responsibility for sustainability sits with the managing directors Isibéal Ballance & Richelle Wilder who oversees implementation of this policy and ensures sustainability is considered in company and production decision-making.
All staff and freelancers are expected to support these commitments.
3. Reducing Direct Carbon Emissions (Office-Based)
As a small company, our direct emissions are limited and mainly relate to office energy use and home working.
We will:
-
Minimise energy consumption by switching off equipment when not in use
-
Use energy-efficient equipment and lighting where possible
-
Work with landlords or workspace providers to support renewable electricity tariffs
-
Maintain a hybrid working model to reduce commuting emissions
-
Operate digitally to minimise printing and paper use
4. Reducing Indirect Carbon Emissions (Productions)
The majority of our environmental impact comes from production activity. We use the BAFTA albert toolkit to measure and reduce this impact.
We will implement the following measures:
Power
-
Prioritise energy-efficient equipment, LED lighting, and rechargeable batteries
-
Use mains/grid electricity where available instead of generators
-
Avoid diesel/petrol generators on UK shoots where feasible
-
Explore battery-powered solutions for location filming
Travel and Transport
-
Consider environmental impact when selecting locations
-
Prioritise UK-based filming and local crews where possible
-
Choose rail over air travel for domestic and short-haul journeys
-
Minimise travel through careful scheduling and remote collaboration
-
Encourage use of public transport and low-emission vehicles
Catering
-
Where catering is required, encourage lower-carbon options (e.g. reduced red meat, more plant-based choices)
-
Avoid single-use catering items
Procurement
-
Work with suppliers who demonstrate sustainable practices
-
Request sustainability information from key suppliers where appropriate
-
Prioritise hire, reuse, and efficient resource use in production design and logistics
5. Reducing Waste
We aim to minimise waste across both office and production activities.
We will:
-
Apply the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle
-
Prioritise hiring and reusing materials rather than purchasing new items
-
Avoid single-use plastics and disposable items where possible
-
Use digital production documents (call sheets, scripts, schedules)
-
Ensure recycling and responsible waste management on set and in the office
6. Engagement
We recognise that sustainability depends on the actions of everyone we work with.
We will:
-
Share this policy with staff and freelancers at the start of productions
-
Embed sustainability considerations into production planning and workflows
-
Encourage teams to complete relevant industry training, including ScreenSkills sustainability modules
-
Share learnings from productions, including insights from albert carbon reports
-
Encourage open discussion and continuous improvement across the company
7. Measuring and Monitoring
We take a practical approach to measuring and improving our environmental performance.
We will:
-
Use BAFTA albert certification data to track and review production emissions
-
Review carbon footprints across productions annually to identify trends and improvements
-
Aim to reduce emissions on returning productions where possible
-
Continue developing our understanding of company-level emissions over time
-
Review and update this policy annually
